As a third-generation roofer, Matthew Dockery set out to use the skills he had honed as a teenager and young adult to bring high-quality roofs, gutters, siding, doors, and windows to the Gaston County area.

Starting Gaston Roofing in 1990, he and his family-owned and operated business have brought roofing expertise to the area for over 30 years with a smile on their faces. Being family-owned and operated is important to Matthew, not only because it allows Gaston Roofing to become a company with fourth-generation roofing expertise, but also because he knows that his employees are more than just that, they’re actually family.

I handled a recent roofing project for a relative’s extensive roof sheathing/fascia and gutter repairs project. Matthew Hodge had provided services on previous repairs and again conducted a preliminary site inspection with candid comments of roof condition, followed by a prompt estimate. Two shingle layers were removed along with a large number of damaged roof sheathing panels. Roofers arrived as scheduled and completed work in a timely manner. Most impressive was the work ethic exhibited by the roofers and the efforts they made to maintain and leave a clean worksite. Another good experience. Very pleased.

Had 2 tree limbs fall through the roof of the house , front and back , originally I called the company that re-roofed the house back in 2020 and never heard back after several weeks, I then called Gaston Roofing and Tom called back within a few days, I texted him pics of damage he gave me a quote and came out fixed both places that were damaged, he also fixed several ridge vent singles he found damaged that were away from holes in the roof. everything looks great !!! Very pleased with Gaston Roofing !

I looked and got many appraisals for my roof and they may not be the cheapest but they were the most professional and helpful. They had the best quality materials used. I also needed the job done asap and they were able to get it done the following week. I am very satisfied with the result. Outstanding work by Tom in repairing two leaks in our roof: one at the base of our chimney and the other at the base of an exhaust pipe. A lot of detailed work involving removal of 2 layers of old flashing around the chimney, grinding & slotting out chimney mortar joints, shingle removals and matching replacements, rotting board decking removals and replacements, added support framing, resealing everything, etc. Tom didn't cut any corners, but took the time to do everything right. I was very impressed. Can't tell the shingles have been replaced and the chimney flashing looks so much better than the original. It was a bit expensive, but after nearly 2 days of hard work by Tom, it was worth every penny! After the job was done and paid for, Tom sent us photos detailing the different repair phases and rotted wood areas. Excellent customer service!

After posting my review the owner has contacted me and has made things right. He did give me a refund and apologized for the technicians poor service. I will be leaving the lower part of my review to be a warning to others, but I will put higher starts for the owner stepping in and making things right.I hired Gaston Roofing for a leak that I had. The guy that came out seemed nice and when he came out for the estimate he told me he could fix the problem on the spot that day. I was pleased because hurricane Helene was coming any day, so I wanted the problem solved soon. A few days later a little rain came and the same spot started to leak again. I contacted the man who “fixed” the leak. I asked him to come back because the same spot was leaking and I’m not going to have anything inside my house fixed by my contractor if more water is coming in the house. The roofer claimed I needed to make more of a hole in my bathroom ceiling and diagnose the leak myself. Originally he was always welcomed to make an even bigger hole because I already had one from water falling through my ceiling. I had to replace the ceiling anyways. I sent videos to him of the ceiling(without drywall) still leaking and was told he couldn’t really see it. Which left me asking him to come to look at again. He also told me it wasn’t his work that did it so he wasn’t coming back. He would only come if I paid again. I already paid $625 to fix a leak in that exact spot which never happened. I was tired of fighting with him and a hurricane was coming so ended up paying another company that let me know the Gaston roofer worker did not seal the spot they worked on. I do not recommend this company to anyone. They will take your money and not do the job correctly.

I have used this business twice before and loved them. So when my roof started leaking after a storm, we filed with insurance and tried contacting Gaston Roofing to schedule as requested. That was over a month ago. Both my husband and I have called multiple times to set up an appointment and no one has returned our calls. We will be seeking a new company to work with.

Outstanding Service and Great Savings from Gaston Roofing!I initially called Gaston Roofing after my dad received a quote of over $32,000 from another roofing company. Having had a great experience with Gaston Roofing several years ago, I decided to reach out. Ian from Gaston came out, and not only did he save my dad over $18,000, but he could have saved even more if my dad hadn’t opted for a few extra things! Dad has not had a new roof installed since Hugo! So he needed a lot of work!Ian was incredibly patient, took the time to explain everything in detail, and even came back out personally to address my dad’s questions. The crew started the job last Thursday and finished everything by Friday—just two days! They worked tirelessly to get both my dad’s roof and his building looking amazing.We were so impressed that we’ve already scheduled additional work with them. I never thought they would do the work. I canceled the guttering to be done on my home. I was not notified that he was coming, was independent contractor, and he had scraggly long hair(appeared dirty) in shaven with a week of stubble. I told him I did not want work done. He actually looked homeless, maybe an alcoholic. I do not recommend this company for ANYTHING!!

My recent experience with Gaston Roofing is deserving of a review.My initial call was answered by an individual and not an automated system. An appointment was made and the representative arrived at the agreed upon time. The estimate was prompt and reasonable. Repair date/time was scheduled. Both of the individuals, Scott and John, arrived before the scheduled time on a FRIDAY. It was assuring finding out they both were seasoned and experienced roofers. I feel confident the repair will address the reason for the work.

I have wasted 3 weeks getting the run around from Gaston Roofing. They came out on an insurance clam and looked at the roof, but never would schedule the repair work. Every time I called, it was a different excuse.Now, more damage has been done due to the roof leak. I would avoid Gaston Roofing.

I had a great experience with Gaston Roofing. They were quick to respond to my request for quote and were able to get to the job much quicker than expected. The old roof was removed and new roof put on in one day. They have since been out multiple times to inspect the job, finish a couple things that were discovered, and make sure the site was free of debris and dropped nails.

The crew placed tarps around the house and cleaned up afterward so that you couldn't even tell they had been here. Our roof has three mechanical vents that required an electrician to hook them up. Matt had his electrician out first thing the following morning. The new roof looks great, too!

I hate to give a bad review to a small business but from start to finish my dealings with Gaston Roofing weren't good. My salesman was sketchy, he sold me on the roof with a promise of lowering my deductible then showed up with a completely different company that I had never heard of asking me to sign the papers. I was put on the spot and signed but pushed back the next day and was able to back out. He "pulled some strings" to get the same price with Gaston Roofing who I had researched and thought was a reputable company. Once they had my money I had to follow up on everything to get the work done. They did the roof and I had to call because the shed roof was included in the quote and not done. I had to call to make sure the downspouts in my quote were replaced (I got 2 of the 3 quoted). And I called multiple times because the owner told me that he would add some interior damage to my insurance quote and I never got a response. I tried contacting my salesman but he was no longer with the company and when I got into contact with their office I was told I would be contacted soon with a resolution. After several calls that never happened. I still have water damaged walls in my bedroom but have given up on that since the original insurance claim was so long ago.Edited to add 4 years later that "conveniently" my calls (after the initial ones to the salesman where I gave up in the midst of covid) were unrecorded as they were from my work number. They seem to do good work based on reviews, looks like I just missed out. (4 years later roofing nails are still showing up in my yard and driveway). Got a bad sales guy in the midst of a pandemic and paid the price it seems.

I wish that I could give this company a better review, but unfortunately we never got the chance to work with them. I reached out for a siding estimate and they were prompt to come out, but it took nearly a month to get a quote from them (which included me following up 3 times with no response). Not the end of the world, I understand people are busy. However, the quote that was finally provided via email was only half of what we discussed. When I replied and asked for the vinyl quote as we had discussed, I never got a response (it has been 20 days now of silence).We will not be begging them to take our business and can say with certainty that there are companies out there that are incredibly helpful, responsive and seem to actually want the work!

After we received the estimate and responded with a question, we were ghosted. I called, sent emails and texts with no answer between May 27 and June 10. Finally send a message via Facebook and get a confirmation that they will be here June 14th between 6:45-7:15 am. They did not show. I texted, called and Facebook messaged again, nothing. Finally speak to someone at 10 am who says he doesn't know why I was told that time, they usually don't start until 8-8:30 am but I am on their schedule and they will be here sometime today. I explain that I have to leave at 3:30 and cannot wait past that time. I call back at 2 and leave a message (no one ever answers the phone there) for an update and reminder that I have to leave at 3:30 and have been waiting for them since 6:45 am. I call again at 3:30 and 4:45. Never received a response to my messages, texts or Facebook messages. It was a small job but if they can't be trusted with a small job, we can't trust them with a large job. Severely disappointed in this company and do not recommend them if you want someone to actually show up or respond to calls, texts or emails.

If you use Gaston Roofing of Gastonia, NC, be aware of their rotten wood claws on their invoice. they told me they removed 20 pieces of rotten wood from my roof. l took a picture of there trailer and there was no rotten wood just shingles. when l asked what wood was replaced, they told me they were 1x6x12, these boards you can get from Lowe's for 5.49 to 7.98, depending on the grade, they charged my 54.00 per piece. all companies have markups on their materials, this is just gouging the customer, l would not recommend this roofing company to anyone.

Excellent work, the roof doesn't leak, 10/10 would hire again.I've called these people 3 times, had someone come to my house twice to estimate a job, and they never got back to me. I don't know the quality of their work, but judging by the quality of their customer support, I wouldn't want to work with them anyway.

I recently developed a roof leak around an old vent pipe that wasn’t being used. Gaston Roofing came by and had it repaired in a matter of a few hours. He also added gutter guards and repaired a downspout problem that was allowing water behind the gutter. The work was very affordable and he allowed me to use a coupon thru offer from the local newspaper. Great job

Tom with Gaston Roofing did a great job repairing multiple shingles with exposed nail/screw heads that had been caused previously by a tarp that was put down.He also was able to handle my ridge vent that was lifting up and an area of roof decking planks that were lifting up. Tom was a one man army and did a great job helping me extend the life of my roof.

Crew showed up early and dug right into the work. Other than a lunch break, they didn't stop. Cleaned up quite well...I only found a few of the roofing nails in the grass. The 2 gentlemen doing the gutter replacement were most congenial, hard workers and cleaned up well after completing the job. They were also helpful in explaining the process. Tom, who did the roof repairs, kept at it for many hours in extreme heat, didn’t seem to even take many breaks. He pointed out the repairs he was making and double checked the inspection report to be sure all bases were covered.

We had Gaston Roofing install new gutters on our building about 6-7 years ago. While having some other work done to the building the gutters were damaged a little. We called Gaston Roofing after noticing a leak spot on our ceiling. Left a message and someone called in about 7 days. They are that booked up, but they WILL call you. On the morning they called me, I texted a few pictures of the gutter and roof where I thought the damage was at his request. Tom Bradbury came later that day with everything he needed to make the repairs. He inspected every possible place that there could be damage, repaired roof and gutter, even carefully matching the shingles to what we have. He explained everything he did and we were reassured by his thoroughness. He spent several hours on the inspection and repairs. Fair priced. We will use this company whenever needed and recommend to all of our friends.
